I'm not certain as to who is the author, but I came across something that strikes a chord within that I thought to share here.
"When you act, if you have personal motive or if you expect a reward, you build up tension even before you start. There is expectation and anxiety. There is fear of losing something. Instead the mind is kept free from any expectation whatsoever and your action is done just for the sake of action, for sake of others. That action is a perfect one. If the results of an action bring benefit to all people concerned, without bringing harm to anybody, then it is a perfect action. But if it brings harm even to one individual, or if it builds up a tension in your own mind, it is not a perfect action."
Continuing with similar thought here is another quote: "If you are unsure if you should do something, ask yourself whether you are doing it for selfish reasons or for the benefit of others. If it is for selfish reasons, you may often go wrong. But if it is for the benefit of others, you will never see wrong."
These are both helpful as I approach a new opportunity for possible involvement in business venture. I have had some questions arise in my mind about this, so yes, these ideas spoke to me as reminder to pause, observe, and listen within as to whether this is (or others were in the past) a perfect action.
I think that everything we experience is there to help us bring forth our own capabilities. This helps us better realize that while in the absolute are all already present, it sometimes feels as if we have to learn them in our day to day living. Remembering that if we allow ideas to flow, we can better exemplify being a channel, as in running water, and if anything comes up, we pass it on without clinging.
Doesn't that feel free-flowing?
It does feel free flowing!
I love that you are stopping and pausing to listen to divine direction.
Recently a friend asked me to do a business venture with her. At first I was very excited thinking it would be fun. It tapped into a skill I think I have, and she has lots of connections.
However, the more I listened the more I knew that it was not right at all for me, and even not right for her if I worked with her. She was running from her own talent.
I told her that I couldn't do it, that was hers to do, not mine. At first I could tell she was a little taken back and not all that happy with me, but within a few days she wrote to me with the outline of the business.
This time it was her business instead of trying to make it a partnership with me. However, she still had me involved teaching something that is not my highest calling to teach. There are so many people better qualified to do it, which is what she finally agreed – knowing it was true.
After all that, I was relieved that I was not pulled off track – enticed by the demon of external validation.
The final interesting part of this was what she said when I congratulated her for following her dream. "Oh" she said, "No I don't really want to do this business anymore, I just need to make some money."
Let me tell you I added an additional prayer of gratitude for not going along with her original idea. Doing it for the money – but not really her dream. This is never my idea of doing the right thing!
In the past, it might have taken me a few weeks, a few months, and way long ago, a few years to discover I as being led by someone else's intent. This time, it was 30 minutes into a call.
Thank God!
